Nurses makeup 62 percent of the total health workforce and are often referred to as the backbone of the health sector.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Health Rosy Akbar while launching the Ministry’s first Nursing Strategic Plans and Scopes of Practice Manuals.
Akbar says the development of these six key nursing documents is an indication of the nurses commitment to improving the quality of its service delivery that holistically looks at health care to the health seeking population.
She has encouraged the nursing fraternity to ensure that these strategic plans remain a living document that will continue to provide the foundation and the direction for all levels of nursing and nursing institutions.
Australian High Commission Counselor to Fiji and Tuvalu Christina Munzer says the job of a nurse is a complex one, requiring the engagement of a wide range of skills and competencies, under the guidance of strategies launched today.
Munzer says this document would not only benefit the Ministry of Health and Medical Services but will also benefit the Fiji Nursing Council and the Fiji College of Nursing.
The Ministry of Health today launched the Scope of Practice for Midwives, Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners and the Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses.
