Fiji’s first ever Food Bank Warehouse which will assist people living in poverty is expected to open its doors by the end of next week.
According to the Permanent Secretary for Women, Children, Poverty Alleviation Dr. Josefa Koroivueta, dried food will be stored in this warehouse.
A $10,000 grant agreement has been signed between the Women, Children, and Poverty Alleviation Ministry and Saint Vincent De Paul who have provided the infrastructure.
Dr. Koroivueta said monitoring will also take place to ensure that people in need are assisted.
He added that they will also ensure that the warehouse does not become a dumping ground.
Meanwhile, Saint Vincent De Paul President, Ben Hazelman said the warehouse will be known as Sheltered Food Bank Warehouse which will be open six days a week.
