40 firefighters have managed to control the fire at the Vatuwaqa Industrial Division.
The firefighters also managed to control the fire from spreading to nearby factories.
The Atlas Trading warehouse which had a lot of bulk clothing material was badly damaged.
National Fire Authority CEO John O’Connor said the firemen have cleared the surrounding factories and tried to ensure that the fire was contained within Atlas.
Firefighters had to break open a closed off area to enter the burning warehouse to control the blaze.
Five fire tenders were at the scene.
All the factories and other workplaces in the street evacuated their workers earlier this morning.
The fire started at about 7:40 this morning from inside the Atlas warehouse.
O’Connor said they had great difficulty in going into the Atlas warehouse as they had roll-down shutters which were hard to break open.
