A family is now homeless after a fire destroyed their five bedroom house in Vomo Street, Lautoka, yesterday.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the owner of the house resides in New Zealand and the house is currently occupied by a police officer.
Naisoro said the wife and their two children were at home when the fire started.
In a separate incident, a house belonging to a 55-year-old market vender was destroyed in a fire in Siberia, Labasa, yesterday.
Police said the fire is believed to have started from a power point in one of the bedrooms.
The total cost of the damage incurred is $45,000.
