The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres says Fiji’s voice is becoming loud and clear and the world is starting to listen.

Guterres highlighted this while he was addressing parliament this morning.

He says Fiji has played an important role in the fight against climate change and is glad to address Fiji’s parliament on this issue.

Guterres says Fiji’s strong traditions of community and social responsibility, together with symbiotic relationship with surroundings, makes Fiji natural global leaders on climate and the environment.

He says Fijians have been at the forefront of international action and advocacy on climate and the sea.

The United Nations Secretary General says Fiji has taken on the sceptics and the deniers.

Guterres says governments have a responsibility to lead by example, to condemn hatred and intolerance, and to invest in inclusivity and diversity.

He also thanked Fiji for its contributions to the UN, as a contributor to UN Peacekeeping.
