New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate Change Issues, Paula Bennett says Fiji's hosting of COP23 is ground‑breaking for the Pacific and Fiji has New Zealand's total support in this significant undertaking.
Bennett highlighted this at the opening session of the Climate Action Pacific Partnership Event at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
She says the Pacific is at the forefront of vulnerability to the effects of climate change but it is not sitting back and it is also a leader in responding to these impacts.
The Deputy Prime Minister says COP23 will be a once in a generation chance to showcase this leadership.
Bennett says New Zealand is disappointed that the US has decided to withdraw from the Paris Agreement but they remain absolutely committed to the agreement.
The Climate Action Pacific Partnership Event will end today.
