Fiji’s first ever Asbestos Symposium will be held today at the Pearl Resort and Spa, in Pacific Harbour.
The Ministry of Employment say the objectives of the Symposium is to raise awareness and understanding of stakeholders in Fiji on asbestos and its impacts on health and the legal instruments and initiatives at global, regional and national levels to regulate asbestos.
The Ministry says the symposium will also create a network of partners for sharing of information on works related to asbestos.
There will also be a discussion on the draft of the “Roadmap for the elimination of asbestos in Fiji” at the symposium.
The symposium is organized by the Ministry of Employment and the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization, International Labour Organization, the Fiji National University and the University of the South Pacific.
