Fiji’s Tourism industry currently employs approximately 119,000 Fijians indirectly and directly.

This was highlighted by the President of the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association Dixon Seeto during their media workshop.

Seeto says in 2017, there was a record number of visitors who spent $1.8 billion across the country in terms of foreign exchange earnings.

He says this is more than 30 percent of Fiji’s Gross Domestic Product.

Seeto says the nightmares of the Tourism industry are cyclones, flooding, long periods of rain and other environmental impacts like fragile marine ecosystems.

He says the other challenges include disease outbreaks like Zika, Dengue fever and Meningococcal.
