Former Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald said they had some issues relating to alleged military interference when investigating cases regarding the death of Vilikesa Soko in custody, the video brutality case and the military involvement in arresting Qauia resident Josefa Bilitaki.
Speaking to Pacific Beat on his way to South Africa, Groenewald said they continued with their work as highlighted publicly at the time.
Groenewald also rejected suggestions that there was pressure from the government.
The former Commissioner is also certain that the cases will continue in the courts.
He clarified that the manslaughter charge in the Vilikesa Soko case was dropped as it is covered under the immunity clause of the constitution while sexual assault charges are not covered under the immunity section.
The 8 police officers and military officer charged in this case are charged with rape.
Despite repeated questions from Pacific Beat, Groenewald maintained that there is progress in Fiji and the judiciary in the country is independent and healthy.
Groenewald did not want to speak to us after resigning from the force.
