To modernise the industry and make the farmers the most competitive and successful in the region, Fiji’s 2020 Agriculture Policy was launched by the Prime Minister last night.
Voreqe Bainimarama said this policy lays out the Government’s 21st century vision for Fiji’s agriculture sector, a 5 year development plan.
He said farming is a highly specialized skill and farmers need the proper training and assistance in order to do the job they are expected to do and to achieve the results they are hoping to achieve, whether it’s a big export-driven operation employing dozens of workers, or a small rural farm supporting a single family.
Bainimarama added these days, for most it takes more than just planting a few seeds or cuttings or getting a few cattle or goats to have a successful career as a farmer.
