Diabetes is the leading killer in the Pacific Region and Fiji has the 2nd highest rate of deaths from Diabetes in the world.
Those are the words of President Jioji Konrote as he said that this is very alarming and very sad.
While speaking at the launch of World Diabetes Day at Sukuna Park, Konrote adds that another thing that is very alarming is that Fijians are neglecting the fact that Diabetes like all other NCD’s is controllable.
Konrote adds that the rate of 1 amputation in every 8 hours is frightening.
The President also encouraged members of the public, students and stakeholders that were present to take proactive measures in choosing to live healthier lives.
He says that it is in our ability to choose a healthy lifestyle, to eat fresh and healthy foods instead of processed and fast foods.
