A 31-year-old Fijian national alleged to have stolen more than $16,000 from a resort in Cook Islands has been found guilty of taking just over $470 of that amount.
According to PACNEWS, Avitesh Vikash Prasad denied stealing money allocated as wages for the resort’s employees while employed as head of accounts between 2011 and 2012.
It is alleged that Prasad had been living on the stolen money by manipulating the resort’s payroll system.
It is alleged that he sent the money in his fellow employees accounts and then asked them to withdraw it and hand it to him.
However, $470 was sent directly to Prasad’s account in the final transaction.
The court convicted Prasad of theft as a servant, but discharged him without penalty.
