The current Fijian cruise earnings is about $7 million for the first and second quarter of this year.
This was confirmed to Fijivillage by the Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism Shaheen Ali.
Ali says that this has been a 41% increase compared to the same period last year.
He says that they also need to enhance visitors experience in Fiji and get a greater rate of return per visitor.
Ali says that the total tourism earnings have been increasing adding that a total of 42 cruise ships have arrived into the county with 2 more to arrive this month.
Ali says that Fiji’s greatest competitor in the cruise industry is Vanuatu.
He says that the cruise sector is becoming an important segment in the Fijian tourism industry and has been growing phenomenally around the world.
Ali says that the Fijian cruise earnings in 2017 totaled $10.4 million, a 15% increase compared to 2016.
