Fijians who currently serve under the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission to the Middle East are now receiving a daily allowance of US$70.
This has been highlighted by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Jone Kalouniwai who says that back in 1980s the allowance was as low as FJ$15 per day and maybe lesser in years before that.
With nearly 900 Fijian peacekeepers currently serving under the UN in peacekeeping missions, the overall daily allowance is expected to be sitting around $US63,000 per day.
Kalouniwai says this has been benefitting the peacekeepers.
Kalouniwai says that this increase is due to the substantial role Fijian Peacekeepers are carrying out in the Middle East.
Fiji is now tracking into its 41st year of service in its peacekeeping role with the United Nation.
