Prime Minister and FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama speaking at the campaign meeting in Nabua

Prime Minister and FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama has shared in their campaign meeting in Nabua on why he took over leadership in 2006 and he says it was because of the strong racial discrimination back then.

Bainimarama says that in 2000, he took the leadership role but gave it back to the Great Council of Chiefs to give back leadership to the President who was the Tui Vuda back then.

He says that after that he had appointed an interim cabinet to take us forward which the Tui Vuda agreed to in 2000 and this is where Laisenia Qarase was appointed.

Bainimarama says that after that this party was confident and called a general election in 2001 and won and started to run the government from then.

He says that he saw that whatever happened in 1987 and whatever they tried to avoid and stop in 2000, was very much alive in the SDL government.

The FijiFirst Leader says that from all those years, racial discrimination was at its peak and it was seen that it was mostly brought about by politicians.

Bainimarama says that he wants his party to be free from racial discrimination.

The Prime Minister says that when he speaks in villages, he questions them if they teach racial discrimination to children in Sunday School adding that this is not the case and why did it happen back in 1987 and 2000.

He says that this was because of the politicians back then that were contesting for their seats using racial discrimination.

Bainimarama says that this country belongs to the landowners and no one can argue that fact, but he says if there is no compassion this will be an unfortunate country.

He says that it hurts him to see that some of the iTaukei believes whatever lies SODELPA spreads about the land adding that this is so because most of the people do not know what is in the constitution and the law.
