FijiFirst leader Voreqe Bainimarama has told the people of Levuka that Fiji will not be sold to China.
He made this comment after a Levuka resident questioned Bainimarama on why the government has recently been engaging a lot of development works with China.
Bainimarama said the developments through the Chinese government had already started before his government came into power.
The FijiFirst Leader said these are just fear-mongering tactics used by other parties.
He also says that Fiji’s economy is growing compared to the government that was led by Laisenia Qarase from 2001 to 2006.
He said that Qarase’s government borrowed money to pay civil servants while the Bainimarama government only borrows money for road construction, building bridges, hospitals, wharves, rural electrification and schools.
Another Levuka resident told the Prime Minister that during SODELPA’s campaign in Levuka, they said that if Bainimarama continues to lead the government then the itaukei land will only belong to the itaukei in words but other races will own the land.
Bainimarama stressed that this will only happen if SODELPA comes to power again like the land in Momi that was converted from Itaukei land to freehold land by the Qarase led government.
He said that SODELPA and other political parties are wanting to bring back the GCC which will bring the differences amongst the community.
Other Fiji First proposed candidates that spoke in Levuka included Nemani Bainivalu and Inia Seruiratu.
About 160 people were present at the Fiji First campaign meeting at Levuka Town Hall last night.
