Fiji to lead the way as the first in the region to have a dedicated Hospital for Children with heart diseases- Dr. Krupali Tappoo

South Pacific’s first ever Children’s Heart Surgery Hospital is expected to take shape within the next 12 months.

This was announced by the Sai Prema Foundation saying that the work towards the project begins now following the opening of the Children’s Heart Screening Centre by Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama at the Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Medical Centre in Nasese.

General Practitioner and the Medical Coordinator for Sai Prema Foundation Dr. Krupali Tappoo says that the hospital will be constructed near the Medical Centre and the foundation is truly committed to realizing this dream.

She says that Australia and New Zealand do not yet have a dedicated Children’s Heart Hospital, therefore Fiji will lead the way as the first in the region to have a dedicated Hospital for Children with heart disease.

Tappoo adds that all services will be rendered completely free of cost to all Fijian children once the project is completed.

Tappoo also highlighted that since 2016 they have managed to assist 54 children who went through surgery which has cost the Foundation approximately $5 million.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says young Fijians will be provided heart screenings completely free of cost at the Children’s Heart Screening Centre.

The $200,000 screening machine was donated by a retired couple from New Zealand.

Meanwhile, free of care services has been provided to over 4,000 patients since the opening of the Sri Sathya Sanjeevani Medical Centre last year.
