Fiji supports the integrated and realistic approach of tackling drug trafficking in the Pacific.
This is the assurance the Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola gave the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Director General Yury Fedetov when they met yesterday.
Kubuabola said drugs cannot be tracked in isolation and this is especially true in the 21st century when these transnational challenges are becoming widely recognized as threats without barriers.
The Minister also informed the Director General that Fiji looks forward to strengthening its collaboration with UNODC over the coming years.
He added that Fiji will strengthen its collaboration by improving in monitoring container vessels, an avenue that has been used in the past in trafficking drugs through Fiji’s ports.
Meanwhile, Fedetov has expressed UNODC’s satisfaction with the opening of Fiji’s new overseas Mission in Geneva, Switzerland, which will be accredited to the UNODC.
