With an aim to enhance trade and investment between Fiji and Sri Lanka, a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement has been proposed.
This is after the Attorney General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum held talks with Sri Lanka External Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
Attorney General Sayed-Khaiyum said draft agreement will be sent to Sri Lanka to initiate the discussions.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the two countries had a very good discussion on strengthening Fiji-Sri Lanka bilateral relations not just between the two countries, but also between Government and business and the business to business relations.
The Attorney General said the South-East Asian region is experiencing economic growth and high commercial activity, and with the increased India-Fiji activity, Fiji needs to capitalize on the opportunities that exist in the countries within the vicinity.
He added with Sri Lanka’s new Government they can be a country to target for expansion of trade, investment and tourism.
