A 27-year-old Fiji man and Canberra resident, Josaia Vosikata has been formally charged in the ACT Magistrates Court with the murder of 35‑year‑old Daniela D'Addario.
ABC News reports that Vosikata was arrested 20 hours after the discovery of a woman's body believed to be that of D'Addario, in the boot of a car near Bermagui on the New South Wales south coast.
He was extradited from NSW after appearing briefly in a Bateman's Bay court.
Police said on Wednesday afternoon they stopped a blue Hyundai Getz at Cuttagee Point near Bermagui, but the driver fled into nearby bushland.
The discovery of the body triggered a police search in the area around Bermagui.
After a 20‑hour manhunt in bushland police arrested Vosikata on Thursday.
The dramatic moment was captured on film by Channel 7 cameraman Peter Wilkinson, who spotted Vosikata and pointed him out to police.
Vosikata and D'Addario were reported missing to ACT police on the weekend.
The two were seeing each other for about four months.
A friend told the Daily Telegraph that D'Addario ended the relationship when she found out Vosikata had a family back in Fiji but they got back together for reasons unknown to her friends.
Vosikata is in custody and the case will be recalled on the 8th of next month.
