Fiji has significantly improved the process of enlarging people's freedoms and opportunities and improving their well being.
This is according to the 2016 Human Development Report.
Fiji is ranked 91 out of the 188 countries in the report meaning that it has a high state of human development.
Norway was ranked 1, Australia 2, New Zealand 13, Palau is 60, PNG is ranked 154, Vanuatu 134, Solomon Islands 156, Tonga 101 while Samoa is 104.
The ranking is determined by the improvements made by countries to increase the number of years a newborn infant could expect to live, the number of years of schooling that a child of school entrance age can expect to receive and also the standard of living.
Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the report has some good news about Fiji and it should somehow consider the vulnerability that our country has to natural disasters.
He says all the improvements Fiji is making in terms of human development can be wiped out by a single climatic event.
