Fiji has been greatly commended for its leadership and vision to use the Pacific Islands Development Forum as an opportunity to prepare for the UN Climate Change conference in November.

The conference will be the final chance to get industrialised countries to cut carbon emissions and recognise the struggle faced by island states in the Pacific due to climate change.

PIDF member countries have vowed to stand alongside Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in the fight for a sustainable Pacific region at the opening meetings of the 3rd PIDF Leaders summit in Suva.

Fiji’s offer to give a permanent home to the people of Kiribati and Tuvalu has also been highly commended by PIDF member countries.

A declaration known as the Suva Declaration and the PIDF Charter will be adopted when the summit finishes tomorrow.

These two documents will determine a more positive way forward for the Forum.
