The Fiji Roads Authority is again expected to receive a record budget considering the fact that a number of bridges, roads and crossings were damaged during Tropical Cyclone Winston.
The Fiji Roads Authority had earlier confirmed that 160 bridges and crossings were damaged by Tropical Cyclone Winston costing $44 million.
FRA Acting Chief Executive Officer Rory Garland had mentioned that they have conducted their full assessment with 23 bridges now being prioritized for more permanent structural restoration works.
Just a few weeks ago, Garland had also stated that over 100 of the 1,200 bridges in Fiji which have been assessed as “high priority” require immediate repair or replacement.
He said overloading is costing Fiji over $30M per year.
The Fiji Roads Authority was allocated a record $635.7 million to upgrade and repair roads around the country this year.
