Fiji Ports Corporation Limited has so far removed 7 old vessels that have drifted along the Suva Harbour.
CEO, Vajira Piyasena says that they had about 20 old vessels all together.
Piyasena says that they are trying to remove each vessel one by one but it is expensive to salvage already sunken derelicts and it may cost well over $100,00 for some derelicts to clear.
He says that there has been no oil spillages as most of the vessels are very old and now only is a rusting metal structure without oil inside.
Piyasena adds that the vessels have been drifting in the Suva Harbour for different periods and this ranges from 3 to 9 years.
