Good news as the Fiji Navy will soon receive another vessel with advanced technology that will help in surveying the Fiji waters.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu when questioned in Parliament by FijiFirst MP Rohit Sharma to explain the hydrographic responsibility of the Navy and the new vessel acquired last year, the RFNS Kacau.

Seruiratu says this vessel which will be dedicated for hydrographic purpose for the Fiji Navy will arrive in December this year and the RFNS Kacau will be used for other purposes.

When questioned by SODELPA MP Viliame Gavoka on what is government doing in preparing our people to be able to carry out hydrographic works as this work as this is a very highly specialized skill, Seruiratu says they have people to do the work.

Seruiratu says they also have young officers that are highly qualified.

The Minister says RFNS Kacau dramatically enhances the Fiji Navy Hydrographic survey capability knowing that most of the survey data on the navigation charts relating to Fiji was conducted by Captain James Cook and Able Tasman in the 1800's and the British Military in navigation.
