Lieutenant Commander Timoci Natuva has confirmed that the Fiji Navy currently has only one operational vessel in Fiji which is the RFNS Kula.
Natuva confirmed this during their submission to the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence.
FijiFirst MP and committee member Howard Politini had questioned the Fiji Navy officers about the number of seaworthy vessels currently operational in our waters.
Natuva says they have 4 patrol boats which are RFNS Levuka, Lautoka, Kula and Kikau.
However, he confirms that the RFNS Kula is the only fully operational ship in Fiji.
He adds that the RFNS Kikau is currently undergoing a refit in Australia and it is due to return to Fiji sometime in January or February next year.
Lt Commander Natuva says the RFNS Levuka and Lautoka are undergoing refurbishing so that they can be operational again.
He highlights that the refurbishing is important as the two vessels have been in the Fiji Navy for the last 40 years and are quiet old.
Meanwhile RFNS Kiro remains on the reef and there has been no discussion on its future.
