The Fiji Museum building has officially turned 60 years old.
First opened in 1955, the present building comprises of a single large gallery, with an extension added in 1971 containing a display area, office and workshop accommodation, a library and a classroom.
Discussions for the setting up of a museum in Fiji first started in 1904.
