Fiji Link flight FJ7 Nadi to Suva service today had an issue with the right-hand engine shortly after takeoff.
Fiji Link Executive General Manager Shaenaz Voss says the pilots were alerted to an engine fire and activated the fire extinguishing system on board to bring the situation under control.
Voss says following protocol, they shut down the engine and returned the ATR 72‑600 aircraft safely to Nadi without further incident or injury to guests and crew.
An emergency was declared initially but cancelled once the situation was contained.
Voss says all guests were met and assisted by Fiji Link upon return to Nadi.
Fiji Airways and CAAF are investigating the incident.
All disrupted guests will be rebooked on subsequent flights to Suva.
Voss says a number of other flights will be affected as a result and Fiji Airways and Fiji Link apologise to affected guests.
The airline reiterates that safety is always priority and all flight crews are trained to control and handle such situations.
