Fiji Language Week ends today in New Zealand, where the country celebrated the theme 'My language, learn it, speak it, live it'.
A wide range of events and activities were planned across the nation by universities, public libraries held activities and youth debates in the communities.
Pacific broadcaster John Pulu, who is of Tongan descent, decided to learn the language this year to connect with his father's Fijian side.
Pulu says learning the Fijian language has made him wealthier and encourages all to embrace the language.
He says there is a lot more Pasifika people living abroad and so we adopt a different culture, but sometimes we forget about how rich our own cultures are and this is our chance to keep it alive and take it forward.
