The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand has provided a five-year grant of $7 million to the Fiji Higher Education Commission to enhance the quality and relevance of Fiji’s higher education sector.
The funding agreement was signed by the Minister for Education, Dr Mahendra Reddy and will commence in July this year.
The grant which is part of the New Zealand Aid Programme is for the implementation of the Fiji Higher Education Commission’s 2016‑2021 Improvement Programme.
The improvements will focus on qualifications and standards development to meet industry needs, improving the quality of higher education delivery and assessment, supporting better use of technology through strategic planning and systems integration, enabling of institutional linkages and provision of technical expertise and investing in the capability and systems of the Commission.
Commission’s Chairperson, Dr Milika Sobey thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade New Zealand for their timely support as the Commission has a lot to do for the nation with regard to higher education development.
Dr Sobey said New Zealand’s support also reflects its confidence and assurance in the work of the Commission.
The New Zealand High Commission in Suva will provide support and monitor throughout the implementation process by the Commission.
