Our News Director, Vijay Narayan has more from Paris.
With a record profit to be officially announced by Fiji Airways soon and major profit sharing payments expected for the workers, the airline company is on track to get more planes to service additional routes as part of its five year strategic plan.
A ATR72 plane will be handed to FijiLink later this week in Toulouse while a A330-300 is also being assembled at the Airbus factory.
Fiji Airways and FijiLink will comment soon on whether the planes are being purchased or leased.
Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, Stefan Pichler had earlier said that the airline will increase its fleet size by 25% with the purchase and/or leasing of four new aircraft, including one A330, two B737-800s and two ATR72-600s.
Pichler said the additional aircraft will support the company’s plans to grow the number of available seats across all markets by more than 35%, and an increase in passenger numbers by 39%, over the next five years.
He also said the airline will put in place an aggressive financial performance strategy to increase operating profits above $100M, which have been planned assuming fuel prices and currency exchange rates will be at the current levels.
