“A pilot has a great responsibility.”

This is the sentiment shared by Fiji Airways first ever Fijian female Captain Selai Saumi.

Saumi says she was motivated by her late father Captain Nacanieli Saumi who was a Boeing 737 Check and Training Captain for Fiji Airways.

She says this career is really rewarding and exciting and there is no reason why females cannot take up this challenge.

Captain Saumi joined Fiji Airways in March 2007, and was previously a First Officer on the Boeing 737 and Second Officer on the Boeing 767.

She was educated at St. Annes Primary School and St. Josephs Secondary School.
