Fiji Airways confirms its first brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 to arrive home on 3rd December

Fiji’s National Airline, Fiji Airways has today confirmed that its first brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 will arrive home on Monday, 3rd December.

A Fiji Airways spokesperson says the new MAX 8 aircraft is registered as DQ‑FAB and named Island of Kadavu, a name currently held by the Boeing 737‑800NG it will replace in the Fiji Airways fleet.

The spokesperson says the new Boeing MAX 8s will offer Fiji Airways guests superior customer comfort and amenities with modern interiors, personal entertainment screens reduced cabin noise, better lighting and more overhead cabin space.

The airline company had earlier announced that it was planning to get five new Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes in its fleet. It was announced that two planes will be delivered in 2018 while three will be delivered in 2019. The new planes will have the capacity to carry 170 passengers with a larger cabin area.

Fiji Airways CEO and Managing Director, Andre Viljoen says that the new planes will reduce their fuel costs by 15 percent.

The 12 year leasing arrangement with the Boeing consortium is confidential however the list price of each plane is 100 million US dollars.
