The Vodafone Fiji 7s team beat Canada 26-19 in its first pool match of the 2016 Dubai 7s tonight.
Two impressive tries by halfback Jerry Tuwai in the first four minutes of the first half kick started the Fiji 7s team's campaign to defend the Dubai 7s title.
Tuwai scored Fiji's first try after breaking through the Canadian defence at the half way mark.
He then scored for a second time after a well-executed side step.
The third try for Fiji was scored by Kitione Taliga.
Phil Berna scored Canada's first try in the match with 9 seconds left for halftime.
Fiji led 19-7 at halftime.
In the second half, the Fiji 7s team struggled to get ball possession and this saw Canada score two quick tries through Nathan Hirayama and Adam Zaruba.
With only seconds left on the clock, Waisea Nacuqu scored Fiji's winning try after wonderful attacking and support play.
Fiji will next face Wales at 11.47pm.
They will play their final pool match against Argentina at 4.48am tomorrow.
The Cup quarters start at 8pm tomorrow, the Cup semis start at 1.41am Sunday while the Final kicks off at 4.33am Sunday.
