It is finally here!
After 5 years in the making, the richest fight in boxing history will be finally held this afternoon.
Now it is only a matter of hours until Floyd Mayweather steps into the ring to face long‑time nemesis Manny Pacquiao.
Not only are the fighter’s legacies at stake , Mayweather’s WBC, WBA and Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight belts are both up for grabs.
Mayweather’s record stands at 47 wins and no loss as a professional, while Pacquiao has lost five of his 64 fights, with two draws.
Some sporting icons who have placed their bets on Pacquaio include the great Muhammad Ali, England soccer captain Wayne Rooney, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto and unbeaten UFC fighter Ronda Rousey.
Those who have picked Mayweather include boxing champions Ricky Hatton, Kell Brook, Amir Khan and Shane Mosley.
Apart from this, there are those who believe Manny Pacquiao will become the president of the Philippines one day if he wins this fight and gain more supporters.
Looking at things locally, the Filipino community in Fiji has rallied support for Manny Pacquiao and will be watching the fight at the Defense Club in Suva.
President of the Filipino Association in Fiji, Primo Relos Junior says the Filipino Community in Fiji is excited about the fight and they have also designed special Pacman t‑shirts.
More than 50 people are expected to watch the fight at the Defense Club.
Fijivillage spoke to some people on the streets and asked them about the fight.
Meanwhile, people in the Philippines are expected to grind to a halt when the fight airs this afternoon and the nations cheers it’s "National Fist" in open‑air screenings, cinemas, bars and homes.
US$400 million will be generated from this fight with Mayweather to walk away with US$180 million while Pacquiao will get US$120 million.
While boldly speaking to ESPN, Mayweather says his defence will win him the fight.
Manny Pacquiao says he is not worried about Mayweather being a much bigger boxer than him.
Mayweather will fight Manny Pacquiao at about 3pm today, and you can watch it live on Sky Pacific’s Pay Per View channel.
