A relative of the six-year-old boy who is believed to have drowned in the Wainibuka river said the father of the victim is still in a state of shock.
The relative said the boy attended a kindergarten in Nailega, Wainibuka while his older sister is a year one student.
He said the two children only live with their father who is separated from his wife.
The boy was swimming with a 29-year-old at around 4.30 yesterday afternoon when the alleged incident occurred.
Attempts to revive the boy were unsuccessful and he was conveyed to the Nayavu Health Centre where he was pronounced dead.
The drowning toll stands at 33 compared to 32 for the same period last year.
