Farmers of Drasa, Lautoka have been advised to consider multi‑cropping for better soil utilization and improved yields.
Minister for Agriculture, Inia Seruiratu highlighted this while speaking to members of the Warabetia and Marasa Herbs and Vegetable Cluster Farmers during a recent visit to farmers in the Western Division.
Seruiratu stressed that farmers need to practice multi‑cropping which is very important due to the changes in climatic conditions currently being experienced adding that this will sustain farmers during harsh conditions.
The Agriculture Minister has also encouraged the farmers, a majority of whom were sugarcane farmers, to work smartly by utilizing their vacant land for either vegetable or livestock farming.
Seruiratu emphasized the importance of forming clusters as it would foster partnership between farmers and could further enhance individual farmers' productivity through the cluster model and this will also allow the Ministry to effectively support them.
