Farmers Union wants election of Sugar Cane Growers Council before harvest

The National Farmers Union wants fresh election of the Sugar Cane Growers Council before the next harvesting season.

This was a resolution passed at yesterday's AGM held in Labasa.

The Union also wants a review of the Sugar Industry Master Award and the reinstatement of other industry institutions such as the Sugar Commission of Fiji, Mill Area Committees and the Fiji Sugar Marketing Limited.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Voreqe Bainimarama has already stated in Parliament that there are no plans to hold election for the Sugar Cane Growers Council.
