A close relative of the elderly woman who passed away in the fatal road accident in front of the Lami Police Station yesterday morning says they are in deep shock over this tragedy.
We now know that the woman was 77-years-old and was on a regular visit to a relative in Lami.
The relative, Ropate Bolatini says the woman has five children and this is truly sad for the family.
The victim was on her way to visit Bolatini's wife.
Police have questioned the driver of the private vehicle that was involved in the accident.
Eyewitnesses say the woman had gotten off the bus and was crossing the road when she was hit by the private vehicle.
The body was lying on the road for quite some time after the accident which occurred at around 10 yesterday morning.
Lami Police removed the body from the road at 11.14 yesterday morning.
When asked by Fijivillage why it took more than an hour for Police to remove the body of the woman, Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says there are processes to be followed at any crime scene and people need to understand that officers will take time to preserve evidence and take necessary detailed information at the scene for investigation purposes.
Naisoro says the desired result for any investigation is a successful prosecution and it starts from the scene of crime whereby forensics have to conduct the work.
Investigations continue.
