A family is still trying to come to terms with the death of their family member who was allegedly involved in the robbery at the City Forex Foreign Exchange in Nadi.
Taito Ratu Soko told Fijivillage that he last saw his brother, Vilikesa Ratu Soko on the 5th of August when he had gone to attend his daughter’s birthday party.
Soko raised concern that police did not inform them that his brother had been taken to the hospital.
He said they were informed by another suspect’s brother that Vilikesa Soko was admitted at the hospital.
Soko said they are now waiting for justice to prevail.
Vilikesa Soko is survived by his wife and three daughters.
His daughters are still unaware that their father has passed away.
Soko said they will be taking his body to Cunningham tonight and his funeral will be held tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald has launched a criminal investigation into the death.
Groenewald said that the same senior officer who initially investigated this matter will continue as lead investigator on the criminal case.
He added that at this stage, they cannot release the details of privileged evidence.
The Police Commissioner said that under his leadership, the Fiji Police Force will not tolerate any misconduct by its officers.
Groenewald said that the man’s family deserves to see justice for what happened to their son and he is determined to see this done.
