Family mourn loss of eldest son

The family of 33 year old Rohit Deo of Naleba, Labasa is still trying to come to terms that he will not return home.

Deo passed away after allegedly getting hit by a ten wheeler truck on Wednesday.

The incident happened at around 6pm when Deo was returning home after working on his farm.

Deo’s father, Deo Ram says it was just a usual Wednesday morning and Rohit had left at home at 4am to work in the sugar cane farm.

Rohit’s father says his son would make the one hour journey on foot from his home to the cane farm every day and walk back in the evenings.

He says Rohit was his eldest son and had been taking care of the family since his retirement last year.

Meanwhile, Police say the driver allegedly involved in the accident is yet to be charged.
