Two more families are mourning the loss of their loved ones following two separate drowning incidents involving children yesterday.
The first incident involves a 7-year-old girl who was found by her mother floating in a nearby river in Muanaira, Vutia, Rewa at around 5pm.
The girl was playing outside while her mother attended to another sibling and the child was later found floating in a nearby river.
The second incident involves a 13-year-old student of Lami who was found near the Veisari Bridge in Lami after she had jumped off the bridge but did not surface.
The victim was swimming with her cousins after 5pm when the incident occurred.
The drowning toll currently stands at 20 compared to 33 for the same period last year.
The Fiji Police Force is again emphasizing the importance of supervising children at all times.
