The Chairman of Media Industry Development Authority says people have taken the presence of police and military on the streets to say there is possible lawlessness in Fiji which is not true.
Ashwin Raj says there is fake news about possible lawlessness on social media.
Raj says the security forces know they are in a democracy and they are doing their job to make sure there is safety and security at this critical time.
He says no one should give any credence to any fake news about results at this point in time as finalized results are progressively released by the Fijian Elections Office.
He says local and international media, the Multinational Observer Group, and the polling agents from various political parties are present at polling stations.
He has also encouraged people who were not able to vote at the 22 polling stations due to bad weather to vote today.
