The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has commended the rape sentences made by the Suva High Court to two men in separate incidents.
Coordinator Shamima Ali said they welcome the 13 year sentences handed to Tarajiani Bavesi, a Special Constable who raped two women during the course of a police investigation, and Atunaisa Gaunavou who raped his 14-year-old neighbor.
Ali said such behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
With the recent decision of the government to ratify the Convention Against Torture, the FWCC has called the government to ensure that all security force personnel receive human rights training as part of their training curriculum.
