The Fiji Teachers Union has welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Education to recruit 527 new teachers and increase the allowance of rural school teachers.
Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary Agni Deo Singh says with the recruitment of these new teachers the standard of education in schools will improve.
Meanwhile, single teachers’ allowance who will be teaching in rural areas will be increased to $2,400 from $1,200 per annum while the allowance for married teachers has been increased to $3,600 from $1,800 per annum.
