The Fiji Sugar Corporation has confirmed that there is no sugar shortage however there is a shortage of 25kg sugar bags.
This was highlighted by FSC after questioned by Fijivillage on whether there is a definite shortage of sugar.
We have received reports from people of sugar rationing in prominent supermarkets.
FSC says they had recently changed bag suppliers for their 25kg bags and there has been a slight delay in the supply of 25kg bags.
The Corporation has confirmed that some retailers purchase sugar in 25kg bags for re-packing.
FSC last week supplied all retailing supermarkets that sell 1kg, 2kg and 4kg packs, as well as a total of 116 tonnes of sugar in 25kg and 10kg bags to re-packer customers.
FSC is encouraging all re-packer customers to purchase their sugar in 10kg bags in the meantime until the 25kg bags supply normalizes.
Supply is expected to normalize next week.
