Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has collected $4 million Plastic Bag Levy through the VAT Monitoring System since its inception in December 2017.
This was highlighted by CEO Visvanath Das who says that this also through the implementation of the Electronic Fiscal Device.
Das says with this same system they have also collected $600,000 for Environmental Climate Adaptation Levy and $400,000 for Service Turnover Tax.
He says that this helps in government funded programs.
The CEO also announced that they are now into the third phase of the VAT Monitoring System which sees the inclusion of construction companies, Real Estate agents, engineering companies, accommodation and food services, freight companies, Commercial health care services, Wholesalers and manufacturers and service stations.
Das says the objective of this system is not only to have efficient and reliable software to encourage voluntary compliance but at the same time collect the revenue that is owed to the government.
Das says there are also 30 voluntary tax payers from the first phase which included commercial farming and restaurants.
