The Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority is investigating a local company for allegedly illegally importing DVD=s and later selling it to DVD outlets at a much cheaper price.
CEO, Jitoko Tikolevu said the company under investigation is not providing receipts or invoices relating to the sale.
He said this is a clear breach of the custom law and uncovers the extent of duty evasion adopted by some companies.
Tikolevu said they will impose a monetary fine of up to three times the true import value for those who evade duty.
The current fiscal duty on a blank DVD is $2.
In addition, importers have to pay 10 percent import excise duty and 15 percent VAT on the total imports.
Tikolevu said all these duties and taxes are evaded through illegal imports.
