The Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority has held a number of forums to assist taxpayers and inform stakeholders on the importance of filing tax returns correctly and on time.

The sectors that were part of these forums are Construction, Tourism, Duty Free, Supermarkets, Hardware companies, Real Estate Sector and Retailers.

An information session on VAT compliance and Tax Evasion was also organized at the Fiji National University, Nasese Campus last week.

Officials from FRCA presented on VAT returns, VAT fraud and Tax Evasion to the participants.

FRCA Chief Executive Officer Visvanath Das says failure to understand taxation leads to non‑compliant behaviour amongst taxpayers hence the stakeholder forums to educate stakeholders on their tax obligations.

Das says most taxpayers want to do the right thing and pay their fair share of tax however due to the lack of information and awareness, people do not comply with tax and customs regulations.

The taxpayer education team will be meeting stakeholders and presenting to businesses in Labasa and Savusavu today and tomorrow.
