The Fiji Roads Authority is now undertaking changes to the Suva City traffic movements after the opening of the Stinson Parade Bridge.
For Renwick Road, the new Suva City layout consists of two through lanes from Central Street with one way traffic only.
For Central Street, the new layout consists of four traffic lanes - one Victoria Parade bound, two Renwick Road bound and one Stinson Parade bound from Thomson Street. A new traffic island is being constructed to separate the traffic lanes with opposite directional flow. The traffic islands at Stinson Parade intersection and Victoria Parade intersection is being modified to increase two-lane traffic through Stinson Parade and to accommodate the new traffic layout.
For Thomson Street, all three lanes will be one way Victoria Parade bound. The existing traffic islands at the Edward Street and Scott Street intersection will be modified to allow for the third through lane from Scott Street.
For Scott Street, all three traffic lanes will be one way Thomson Street and Victoria Parade bound.
There will be an additional lane for Stinson Parade which will be Harris Road bound at the Central Street intersection. The Central Street bound lane from Edward Street will be discontinued to allow for the additional lane to Harris Road.
Usher Street will be closed to all through traffic.
FRA says Pier Street entry will be from Thomson Street and exit into Renwick Road.
It has also been confirmed that only right turn will be allowed for exit from Ellery Street onto Renwick Road. The left turn at the exit onto Renwick Road will be discontinued to allow for the two lanes from Central Street.
These changes will take place over the next three months.
FRA is continuing its studies on the traffic movements and more changes will be announced later.
